Community calling

It's finally the days we long awaited!! Time for community service... (which also means we're able to get out of camp!) So this is how they handle things since our batch is chasing time. We're again divided into groups and each team would go to a different place. Then at night, we'll all gather and each group is suppose to sent its representative and give a summary on what they did, personal encounter and lessons learnt.

So to where my community calling brings me???

Assigned to catch a glimpse of what firefighter does.... after some talk here we are admiring the gigantic machine we all question. What's in it anyway?

The head of firefighter showing us the 'water gun' (i dunno what's it call lah.. He talks way to fast my pen can't chase up)

A wira trying out the apparatus. Mind you it was really heavy! No wonder firefighters needs physically fit and strong :)

So what else is in that gigantic machine?

The water pump control system which is at the back of the machine... The truck is fat cause it's able to drink up to 1400 liters of water!

Those 'kalis api' stuff and ponchos...

The 'water gun' thing..... and i can't make out what others are (sorry >.<)

Lightings and extendable ladders... which comes in handy at all emergency times

Electronic saws.... and machines of (again i dunno what)

Demo of the breathing apparatus. Very very useful when a firefighter walks heroic-ly into a burning building to save trapped innocents from the hungry devouring red flames

Thinking what has this gotta do with our community services??

Digging and looking for the 'hidden' chamber which protects the hydrant water control

Hard work of opening the hydrant water control pipe. After that there's endless muddy water shooting out of the hydrant but sadly i didn't manage the shot :(

Yeah... our service was to clear, clean, test and paint every single hydrant planted in this little chinese village

The fact that it was really enjoyable might surprise you but think about it.. In a life time how many times would you come across chances like this, the chance of a life time for you to dig and see for yourself how hydrants work

We're now 17+1

Birthdate babies in Ns feels like....

On the 15 february, one of my dorm mate you yin from terengganu celebrated her birthday! She looks so small but she's already... hehe.. older than any of us. Up next, Melissa's birthday on the 22 february. But i did not participate 'cause we're in a different dorm and it rained very heavily that day....

Here's a group picture of us celebrating you yin's birthday. You yin's the one in red and Melissa is the one in purple...

Supposedly, moose cake but sadly because of the hot weather it melted and doesn't look appetizing. But we manage to whack the whole thing anyway

Our first time, my first time celebrating birthdays without our families... i thought it won't even feel like it's your day. No sooner... the day arrives. As i sat up on my bed rubbing my eyes and still half asleep, a girl opposite my bed "Happy birthday joan!" I was caught by surprised.... then they started singing singing birthday tunes. As the day went along... The whole company sang birthday tunes during breakfast and before bedtime in different languages, friends advertise it's my birthday and got loads of wishes from friends of other company and also teachers :D

There was also another surprise they did for me that i'll remember in my entire life. I didn't expect any of this would come my way. At about 11 when lights were suppose to be off, they whole gang suddenly came in with the cake singing birthday tunes! I was...... touched.

Since it's already running late, quick wish and quickly cut the cake so everyone can eat

American chocolate cake. (That's why it's already half cutted when i took a picture of it since i was really.....)

In contrast,

See lah what my family they all gave me! They visited on the 24 february and brought me this.. then say "nah, this is your birthday cake"

None of us thought that celebrating our birthdays in ns would very much enjoyable. I thought so too. But it seems i was very wrong indeed. I had the best day one could ever wished for! God is has really been extremely good to me that He gave me such good buddies. I mean i barely know them like for 3 months and they are so ever willing to spent money and share out buying the cakes. Moreover, each person's birthday an individual cake!

A group photo- aising, melissa, peihann, sookyin, leann, youyin, likei and yeejin!

Never forgotten, dila. That day, every moment she sees me she'll stop by and sing a birthday tune. She even ask a chinese girl to teach her the chinese version just to sing it to me.... though notty and loves to bully me but she's truly a dear friend. Really miss the time we fought over an innocent pipe to bath and spraying water at each other....

Puzzle pieces

Instructions:
Browse through the posted puzzle pieces with intense attention. Note every detail. Next, try putting them together. If an angel decides to give you a hand, you might get the whole picture :P

Ready to take up the challenge??

Padang kawad- where kumpul early in the morning, for morning exercise, before going for classes and emergencies(there was once a major black out.. and the surroundings were~pitch dark!)

Urusetia- the headquarters and that's where they keep our... handphones!

Medic- Which is where you'll go if you feel sick. But i despise... because of their lack of attitude, poor noble values and some personal reason~(some of you would know :)

Chalets- located opposite the medic and i believe the commander and high-rank people all live in those. Ada air-cond some more!!

The PLKN vehicle- Did us great job by carrying those needed equipments for our physical activities whenever we were suppose to walk to our destination (which is out of camp... woohoo!)

Dewan makan- that's where we are feed 6 meals a day! And also our tempat berkumpul at night, when it rains, camp events and other activities... yeah, the food suck. To them it's like sugar, chilly and oil's free.

Dewan kuliah- there are 4 blocks and 7 classes. Here's where we have our character building, integrasi, penghayatan sastera dan budaya, kerohanian and kenegaraan classes. We're randomly divided :/

The cafe- where food with quality slightly higher than the canteen could be obtain. They also sell items like bucket, padlocks, notebooks.... ect. Many including the teachers would hangout here what more on sundays, our holiday!

Padang bola- Football, netball, basketball and volleyball is played during our riadah time from 5.30pm-6.30pm. Some will play games, some will jog around and most will just sit around and chit-chat

Kembara halangan- obstacle course consist of 6 meter wall, tarzan swing, monkey rack, a tunnel and those wire thing where you crawl underneath

Oh look look... the fenced up area shows the girls dormitories.

The dorms...

Wisma- a place for maggi cup cooking and to melapor diri for night duties. Night duties is like patrolling around the camp from 11pm till 5am. For girls our area only covers the girls dormitories and there's 3 shifts. Each day a different company' shall duty and is rotate among company dorms.

First shift- 11pm to 1am, making sure each one goes go sleep and sleeps on their own beds
Second shift- 1am to 3am, the hardest of all with nothing to do except walking from dorm to dorm looking at others sleep contributes to piled up weariness (i did the second shift~almost died of sleepiness)
Third shift- 3am to 5am, walks from dorm to dorm switching off their fans and switch on lights waking everyone up exactly at 5. These privilege people can continue to sleep after duty till 7

It's sort of like our living room. They have a water cooler and also a television set there but with poor reception. Clearest reception ever RTM1 and there's no 8TV or even NTV7 =.= Plenty of mosquitoes too!

Public phone- menjadi rebutan ramai when our phones are kept. People buy phone cards lik prepaids or has a container of coin collection. Bila-bila ada free time sure got people occupy one...

Toilets-On the far end, that's for washing our clothes and the kolam for bathing if you have sarung. There's shower rooms of course :)

Although it's 3 feet deep... we are not allowed to swim in there :( but sometimes rules are meant to be broken. Once a week like we clean the toilets and before emptying the kolam we'll play water first. hehe.....!

Dorm E2- It's like my home for almost 3 months. We're a family of 16 with 3 chinese, 1 sarawak-ian, 1 sabahan and 11 malays. There's my bed is at the far end on the right.

Kit-layout- practically this is what every bed much look like each morning before we kumpul at 6.30am till 5.00pm. Points are counted for this and if you don't do it properly, it's fore-warn that we might find our beds and lockers thrown out. (but they say only lah..)

Caution: high level of imagination and brain juice required :P
